FAQs

Our most frequently asked questions about our custom-build vehicles.

An Adaptive Mobility Vehicle (AMV) is any vehicle that has been modified with special equipment to help people with disabilities drive or ride safely and independently.

Adaptations include, but are not limited to: driving controls; entry/exit modifications to help people get in and out; side or rear wheelchair access that allows wheelchairs to roll directly in; and technology such as remote controls, voice commands, and advanced driving systems.

Yes. Handicap lifts should be serviced every 750 cycles (or once a year). During each lift service, we perform a full safety and operational inspection to confirm all the deploy, stow, lift, and safety interlock functions operate correctly. We also lubricate and adjust key wear points such as hinges, pivot pins, and latches, and inspect all hydraulic and electrical components to ensure proper performance. We also check the lift’s structural integrity, wiring and safety barriers to verify that everything remains reliable and safe for your passengers.

It really depends on what kind of vehicle you’re using and the type of organization you’re certified or licensed as. Some vehicles need inspections or certifications through the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS), Child and Family Licensing (CFL), or the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Every vehicle we build or customize is made to meet all required accessibility and safety standards, including ADA requirements when applicable. We also handle all necessary recertifications to make sure the vehicle stays compliant throughout its lifecycle. Some vehicles are labeled as remanufactured rather than ADA, but those are still fully licensed, approved, and ready for use in the customer’s operational environment.

We design and build specialty vehicles for a broad range of industries, including Non-Emergency Medical Transport (NEMT), public transit, parking management, senior living, childcare, K-12 education, adult day services, developmental disability support, and personal use. We also offer ADA-compliant and remanufactured vehicles tailored to your unique operational needs. Our focus is on delivering dependable, purpose-built solutions for the markets we serve, and we do not build contractor vehicles, general work trucks, or similar vehicle types.

Every organization has different passengers and unique challenges, so we customize vehicles to fit your exact situation. Whether that means enhanced accessibility, mobility-focused layouts, specialized seating, or tailored interiors, we’ll create a vehicle that meets your operational needs and delivers the best experience for your passengers.

This is dependent on vehicle type and floor plan. Minivans can have 1-3 wheelchair positions. Full-sized vans can have 1-4+ positions, with 1-3 being the most common. Buses have significantly increased capacity and can be built to accommodate your individual needs.

Along with buses, we can build handicap-enabled transit vans and minivans. There are thousands of possibilities when building these vehicles and we are here to help you design the ideal floorplan for your organization’s specific needs.

No, we also build remanufactured and specialty vehicles for a wide range of needs. These can include shuttle buses for airports, recertified and customized school activity vans for field trips and small sports teams, mobile medical facilities, offices, and secure transport vehicles. Many of these vehicles are built to meet federal student transportation guidelines and other applicable safety and accessibility standards.
